Position Description

Housing First is an exciting collaborative programme established by Te Taumata o Ngati Whakaue, Link People and Lifewise.

Housing First provides rapid access to housing and wrap around supports to people experiencing chronic homelessness in the Rotorua region.

As the Housing Specialist you will have a key role within a multi-disciplinary Housing First Team. You will assist with housing searches and placement for people who are experiencing chronic homelessness.

You will build and maintain relationships with landlords and property investors / managers. You will provide a variety of office and field related activities to manage and monitor tenancies including liaising with landlords and tenants.

You will work in tandem with the multi-disciplinary Housing First Support team.


  • You report to the Team Leader Rotorua, in Airedale Property Trust.

  • Assisting Housing First participants to secure and maintain housing of their choice
  • Management of residential properties, this includes Residential Tenancy Agreements, control and management of rent collection and rent arrears (if any) and completing detailed property inspections
  • Developing and maintaining landlord relationships, including landlord focussed events
  • Create and maintain consistent communication channels, both verbal and written, between several parties (i.e tenant, landlord, Housing First Key Workers, collaborating agencies).
  • Manage several relationships, For example HUD, Kainga Ora, MSD and other social housing tenancies and contracts

  • Patience, creativity, flexibility, compassion and sensitivity to persons with experience of chronic homelessness
  • You will have an excellent understanding of Residential Tenancies Act
  • You will have strong relationship and communication skills and the ability to engage with people from diverse backgrounds
  • You will be able to work effectively alongside people with co-existing mental health and addiction problems and who have experienced homelessness to achieve their goals
  • You will understand the Treaty of Waitangi and be committed to the principles of Housing First
  • A current driver’s license
  • Possess strong organisational skills with ability to meet a demanding workload
  • Have an eye for detail
  • Be resilient
