Library Community Partnering and Engagement Specialist

Puke Ariki has a national reputation for their joint library, museum and research centre situated in New Plymouth. Presently we have an exciting opportunity for a fixed term (until June 2022) Community Partnering and Engagement Specialist to join our team.

This role has come about as result of the New Zealand Partnering Fund

You will be responsible for building engagement with stakeholders and the planning, development and delivery of high quality digital literacy programing and services to targeted sectors of our community to assist in the recovery of the Taranaki community to provide benefit and value to the community.

Reporting to the Puke Ariki Library Manager you will contribute to the Library Leadership Team and provide support and guidance on operational matters and provide advice on partnership opportunities to the Library Leadership team.

You will work one day a week at Puke Ariki that may include some weekend work.

POSITION PURPOSE : To manage :

To manage :

  • Community engagement, focussing on digital inclusion (supporting and assisting job seekers and digital literacy programmes) and supporting community recovery, ensuing community needs are met.
  • The coordination of external partnerships to ensure consistency and equality across all libraries including, training, Covid recovery programme development, and working alongside external stakeholders including WINZ, Tui Ora, Work Bridge and other government or community organisations.
  • KEY RELATIONSHIPS

    Integrated Puke Ariki Leads, Senior Librarians, Business Partners including Marketing and Promotion, Human Resources, HSE, Finance, Property, the Business Support team.

    External Customers, Government Departments including National Library of New Zealand, communities across the District, Local Councils, Professional organisations, Digital Partners, WINZ, Tui Ora, Work,

    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES :

  • Leadership - Provide direction for community engagement and partnerships across Puke Ariki libraries for digital inclusion (supporting and assisting job seekers and digital literacy programmes) supporting community recovery
  • Professional knowledge - Contribute to the implementation of the New Zealand Libraries Partnership Programme and NPDC Library Strategy (and in particular the goals regarding Covid recovery).
  • Maintain professional knowledge by keeping current and active with local, regional and international developments in library and information services.

    Share professional knowledge and expertise and keep abreast of emerging trends.

  • Provide effective communication across Puke Ariki library teams and with external stakeholders. Give and receive feedback, keep library teams informed, listen and question to ensure understanding, value diversity and establish strong and constructive working relationships.
  • Participate in library network-wide planning and projects and work collaboratively with the Library Leadership Team, stakeholders and library teams.
  • Show commitment to support Puke Ariki to meet its obligations under the Treaty of Waitangi

  • Work alongside Library Leaders and Library Manager
  • KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS :

  • Developed annually and form part of performance and team plans.

  • Sets high standards of performance for self.
  • QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE :

  • Five+ years’ experience leading a team in the Library and Information field
  • Tertiary qualification in Library and Information Science, or a relevant qualification, or a library qualification with at least 10 years library experience
  • Current knowledge of emerging trends and best practice in 21 century libraries including systems and information technology
  • RIANZA membership would be an advantage
