About this role

This role focuses on delivering effective customer service, financial planning, evaluating financial performance and providing insight, improving financial controls and transactions.

  • To deliver an effective service and develop solutions to problems, the role will utilise a deep understanding of project financials (Operating and Capital expenditure, asset management, costing models and impacts onto future budgets);
  • knowledge of public sector financial management frameworks, processes, and systems; and financial acumen and professional judgment.

    This role will liaise with and utilise specialist teams in Finance to ensure the Ministry meets its statutory financial obligations, to deliver value to the Te Rito Programme, and ensure quality and consistent advice and practices.

    The role reports to the Finance Manager Corporate, with day-to-day reporting back to the Te Rito Programme Manager.

    About you

  • We're looking for an experienced programme accountant with excellent communication (both oral and written) who can provide effective financial support and sound advice;
  • has a good understanding of financial control and project governance; isn't afraid to be in the detail but can balance that by not losing sight of the big picture.

    To be successful in the role, you'll be working collaboratively with key internal stakeholders and developing relationships at all levels.

    You'll be communicating through high quality reporting and written advice. You'll have a continuous improvement mind-set to help us improve our processes and deliverables to meet our customers' requirements.

    You will also offer :

  • Tertiary qualification in finance, commerce or business
  • A CAANZ, CIMA or CPA qualification
  • 5+ years practical project or management accounting experience
  • PMO, project experience, some IT experience, and understanding of IT terminology
  • the ability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangatawhenuatanga.
