What we're looking for

A practical, hands on engineer who loves problem solving and creating solutions to support our scientific research projects.

A strong communicator, you will work with scientists, research teams and our client organisations to provide technical advice and expertise and to develop new and innovative technologies.

What you'll be doing

You will join an innovative and driven research team investigating novel technologies that will support finfish open ocean aquaculture and wildfish capture.

Supporting research and development projects along with finfish handling and production you will develop equipment to successfully deliver research objectives.

You will work collaboratively with other key stakeholders on a range of projects that make a real difference to NZ's aquaculture and seafood processing industries.

What you'll need

With a mechanical / industrial trade qualification or as a trained apprentice you will have a minimum of 2-3 years general mechanical experience.

Your ability to troubleshoot and investigate mechanical problems to create real-world solutions will be essential. Sea-going experience and / or skippers qualifications would be an advantage.

Stainless steel welding, general machining, mechanical trouble shooting and technical record keeping will also be required.

You will be required to go to sea from time to time for test and development purposes, so you need to be comfortable with, and able to handle the seagoing requirements.
