Serko is an established leader in the Australasian market in travel and expense management applications aimed at making business travel personal.

Zeno, our new platform, is revolutionising the world of online travel and expense management, providing the control that travel managers need with an easy interface that travellers love.

Our Engineering and Operations teams have been investing time in improving our products and processes to support the rapid growth and scale that commercial success brings.

Some of the improvements we are implementing include Microservices, Micro-frontends, DevOps, Continuous Delivery and ongoing Refactoring.

The Principal Engineer will be responsible for providing sound design, process and technical input in the creation and ongoing maintenance of Serko’s software solutions while also consistently producing software of the highest quality through great patterns & practises like continuous improvement, TDD, continuous delivery, refactoring and automation.

You will get to work collaboratively across multiple crews and drive and mentor other engineers in your craft, technical architecture and quality standards.

What will you do?

  • Collaborate with cross-functional product engineering teams to create quality software that our customers love
  • Produce clean, consistent and well-organised code that we regularly push to production on our technology stack
  • Contribute towards continuous improvement in the company’s processes, practices and product
  • Work in a build it and run it environment where engineering teams build, deploy, monitor and support their components that they own
  • Proactively research and lead design and then drive adoption of modern technical practices such as DDD, TDD, CI / CD, pair-
  • programming and mob-programming.

  • Mentor and coach other engineers at any-level.
  • Hands-on guidance in the use of principles and practices of leading-edge techniques such as Lean, Agile, Automated testing, Continuous Delivery, DevOps and cloud-
  • based hosting across engineering crews.

  • Influence and contribute to company-wide engineering culture and outcomes with exemplary working behaviour, collaboration and engineering practices.
  • Help determine areas for improvement, both product and process, and to assist in driving solutions across the organisation using a mixture of innovation and pragmatism
  • Encourage community engagement both inside and outside of Serko to benefit our engineering culture

  • Ability to adopt modern development practices especially around emergent design, automation and continuous delivery
  • Willingness to jump into all areas of our products and processes to improve them when needed
  • Experience working in multiple technologies across all layers (from front-end to back-end)
  • Great verbal and written communication
  • Skills in leading design and planning meetings, story mapping workshops and bringing extensive domain understanding; clearly articulating technical outcomes and nuances.
