Academic Staff Member Health

This full-time, fixed-term position is for an Academic Staff Member within the Health Department Team, in the Faculty of Education, Nursing, Health and Social Services.

This role involves teaching across a variety of programmes that range from L2 and L3 Secondary / Wharekura-Tertiary, to L5 Diploma in Health Science and L7 Graduate Diploma qualifications as required.

As an ASM within this team you will have industry credibility, knowledge of good teaching practice and the ability to develop curriculum and resources for face to face as well as online teaching and learning.

Fluency in Te Reo Maori is an advantage.

The key responsibilities for this position include :

  • Curriculum and resource development
  • Teaching into L2-L3 programmes, Bioscience, Health and Rehabilitation and / or Infection Risk qualifications
  • Design and use both formative and summative assessments to monitor student learning and measure student achievement
  • Maintain currency and competence in your area of expertise and in the field of adult teaching and to effectively manage your professional learning / development
  • Evaluate your effectiveness as a teacher, to critically reflect on your own practice and improve your courses, teaching and outcomes for learners
  • Pastoral care responsibilities
  • Teaching a diverse student group from different cultural backgrounds
  • The skills, experience and qualifications required for this role include :

  • At least 5 years in a teaching role
  • Relevant Health, Health / Bioscience and / or Infection Risk Management qualification
  • Te Reo Maori
  • Experience working with Secondary school / Wharekura
  • Community and Health stakeholder networks
  • Experience in the development of student learning material
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to be self-motivating and able to work effectively individually and within a team.
  • A high level of professional and ethical conduct.
  • Understanding and commitment to Equal Educational Opportunities and an awareness and understanding of the Treaty of Waitangi / Te Tiriti O Waitangi and bicultural issues in education
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Positive proactive and energetic working style
  • Relevant Masters qualification, or working towards a Masters qualification
  • Knowledge of the tertiary sector.
