  • Normally up to 16 hours per week, however on occasion additional hours may be needed in a particular week, due to the nature of the support required
  • Here at the Ombudsman, we are about fairness for all. We handle complaints against government agencies and undertake investigations and inspections.

    Good administration is encouraged by providing feedback and training to agencies. We also initiate our own investigations where we see the need.

    The Disability Rights Team supports the Chief Ombudsman as part of New Zealand's Independent Monitoring Mechanism under the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

    The purpose of the contractor role is to provide general administration and personal support to a Senior Advisor in the Disability Rights team who is blind.

  • Daily tasks will include : scanning and reformatting documents to make them accessible; data input and retrieval using various office systems;
  • proof reading and editing documents; making training events, materials and meetings accessible; assistance with general office administration tasks and navigation of office systems;
  • providing personal support including guiding and orientation at external events.

    You will need to demonstrate that you have the technical computer skills to provide the support needed. This will be a close working relationship so you will need to have strong relationship management skills, good communication and excellent attention to detail.

    You will have experience working with blind and other disabled people; and be able to demonstrate commitment and experience to the self-

    determination of disabled people.

    Note that there will be a requirement to travel domestically and internationally at times to accompany and support the Senior Advisor, including guiding and orientation at external events.
