We have had a recent expansion to the team which has created an exciting new team leader role. This role will report into the Executive Manager, Compliance, Regulatory and Assurance and will lead a team of two others to develop an effective second line compliance oversight and assurance plan.

In this new role, you will support and oversight all of Suncorp New Zealand’s businesses (including Vero Insurance, Asteron Life and Vero Liability and its joint venture partnerships AA Insurance and AA Money).

You will work closely with other members of the Compliance, Regulatory and Assurance team and broader Chief Risk Office team to ensure there is effective overall second line risk, compliance and regulatory oversight.

This is an exciting role with a diversity of business support areas and the ability to really set the strategic direction for compliance oversight.

There will be existing challenges and real opportunity to create and drive improvement in risk management practices. You will be recognised for your subject matter expertise and excellent collaboration and stakeholder management skills.

Key responsibilities :

  • Design, review and embed an effective Suncorp New Zealand (SNZ) wide regulatory second line compliance oversight and assurance programme.
  • Conduct periodic, compliance thematic reviews as part of a second line oversight role.
  • Manage an effective compliance testing framework that reviews the design and effectiveness of controls over compliance obligations.
  • Proactively identify areas of key regulatory and compliance risk and work with business units to identify and remediate gaps.
  • Provide support for breach management and rectification activities for SNZ.
  • Develop strong relationships within SNZ entities to the point that your advice and input becomes essential when considering business issues, opportunities, initiatives and changes.
  • What we are looking for :

  • 8+ years of relevant audit, assurance or compliance experience.
  • Background in the financial services industry, or from a professional services firm advising on the financial services industry.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively negotiate and explain risk technical material in business relevant language.
  • Broad commercial experience at senior levels in either a corporate and / or professional services environment.
  • Curiosity and the ability to bring innovative thinking to everyday problems.
  • Prior team leadership experience preferred.
