We are very active in research, with over 30 academics involved in fundamental or applied research programmes, many in collaboration with other disciplines within the University including Biological Sciences, Physics, Engineering, and Medicine.
We also collaborate with numerous national and international research centres and industries. Our postgraduate programme currently involves over 200 students who participate in this research effort and are at the forefront of advancing scientific knowledge.
The OpportunityThe Waterhouse Group is recruiting two highly motivated Research Fellows (Postdoctoral Researchers) to develop novel electrocatalysts for application in metal-
air batteries and fuel cells.The successful candidates will be responsible for the development of new catalytic materials and their integration into prototype devices.
These positions are designed to strengthen an existing and highly productive research collaboration with the group of Prof.
Tierui Zhang (Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing). Thus, successful applicants must be willing to split their year between working at the University of Auckland and working in Beijing, as demanded by the project (spending up to 6 months each year in Beijing).
Our ideal candidate will have : A PhD in chemistry, engineering, materials science or related field.Have strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
A demonstrated track record of high impact research in nanomaterials synthesis, as well as extensive experience in the characterization and electrochemical performance testing of electrocatalysts for energy applications (e.
g. OER, ORR, HER and CO2RR).Expertise in techniques relevant to electrocatalyst characterization, including SEM, TEM, XPS, cyclic voltammetry, galvonostatic charge-
discharge tests, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy.Competence in fabrication of prototype electrochemical cells, such as metal-
