Project Manager - Construction Delivery

Watercare is New Zealand's second largest asset owner and has a fully-funded 10-year programme of work totaling $5.5billion.

We are in a unique and exciting position to embark on an integrated delivery model that levers our programme of work to deliver improved value for our customers.

Why is this a role you would want to be part of? As the Project Manager you will be a key player in delivering this integrated 40 / 20 / 20 model.

You will oversee the Project Management of our Water and Wastewater infrastructure projects in the Auckland region.

This model requires a new way of thinking, with programme first and projects second. We will fully immerse our consultants and contractors into our programme so that we're working together to reduce our build carbon by 40 per cent, our programme cost by 20 per cent and injuries by 20 per cent year on year.

Our infrastructure contracts currently range in value from $1 million to $250 million with up to 100 projects taking place at any time.

Projects involve a mixture of assets including pipes, pump stations, reservoirs and treatment plants.

Duties include :

  • Time, cost, programme, and change management.
  • Prepare and review contract documentation
  • Develop strategy (scoping up resource requirements)
  • Execution of QA using risk-based monitoring strategy
  • Quality compliance as per the Watercare Engineering Standards Framework and the construction industry standards
  • Developing and managing the Construction phase Health, Safety, and Wellbeing strategy
  • Manages construction phase risk, mitigation, and issue management and escalates where appropriate
  • Projects delivered on time and within budget
  • Availability, quality, and timeliness of information and reports
  • This is a great opportunity to balance your time working between our office and onsite. You will work closely with a wide range of people, including contractors, consultants, internal and external stakeholders.

  • It is essential that you have a BE or equivalent tertiary level qualification and 10 years of engineering or project management experience
  • Membership of Engineering NZ or equivalent
  • Chartered Engineer or equivalent
  • Previous engineering experience in water / wastewater industry
  • Experience in delivering infrastructure projects.
  • Experience in a local government organization or utility.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work with all stakeholders at all levels.
  • Well-developed analytical, thinking and planning skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to motivate others.
