Massey University
Palmerston North
6d ago

Massey University’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital has a Sterile Supply and Theatre Technician position available within the Companion Animal Hospital.

The position is part-time, fixed term for a period of seven months.

We are seeking applications from either qualified sterile supply technicians, veterinary nurses or veterinary technologists to work primarily in our Surgery service.

Massey prides itself on many joint initiatives (city-wide) that offer a range of products, services and perks to Massey staff which are free or at preferential discounts.

The University also offers a substantial contribution toward superannuation.

The surgery service itself at Massey works out of a dedicated surgical suite and provides services to companion animals, equine and on occasion production animal and wildlife animals.

You will be working alongside Veterinary professionals in New Zealand’s only veterinary teaching hospital facility.

Massey Vets provides 24 / 7 Emergency Critical care, along with Community Practice and Referral clinics. This leads to a both challenging and extremely rewarding work environment.

Massey’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital is a state-of-the-art, fast-paced facility offering New Zealand’s most comprehensive veterinary expertise.

We are the only 24-hour pet emergency centre in the central North Island so at times we have a high caseload, and our patients require a very high level of nursing care.

The successful applicant will provide high-quality surgery and sterile supply technical support as part of our surgery nursing team.

Duties may involve working with staff and patients mainly from our companion animal hospital and also from our large animal and wildlife hospitals.

We are looking for enthusiastic individuals, who possess excellent communication skills, are self-motivated, super organised, service-orientated, have a great eye for detail and have a passion for education.

As part of Massey Vets, you will be involved in the teaching of Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Bachelor of Veterinary Technology students.

You will be expected to work a 26.25 hour week, with set morning running into early afternoon hours, however, the willingness and ability to work outside of normal hours are essential.

  • Either a Diploma (or demonstrable equivalent) of Veterinary Nursing or Bachelor of Veterinary technology and / or a Medical Nursing or Sterile Supply Service qualification.
  • Knowledge of surgical nursing protocols and surgical terminology
  • Understanding of the aseptic and biosecurity requirements of surgical units
  • Natural empathy toward the cultural, emotional and physical state of our clients and patients alike
  • A team player with a positive attitude
  • A genuine interest in undergraduate education
  • Be eligible to work in NZ
  • Enquiries may be directed to Chris Yeung, Referral Services Group Leader on 06 3569099 or email
