About the Role

The Ranger, Community is a unique and exciting role in DOC. This role forms part of the district leadership team and is responsible for planning and implementing the community work programmes for the Rotoiti / Nelson Lakes District.

This opportunity has become available while the position holder away until the end of March 2022.

You will be located in St Arnaud, Lake Rotoiti and will work closely with our treaty partners, communities and businesses.

As this role does not have reporting rangers it is both planning and doing' and by necessity requires you to get around the district and to work productively with DOCs many neighbours.

This is an enticing element of field work incorporated into the role. Picture, talking to a neighbour whose land bounds onto the near-by mountains in the serene Nelson Lakes National Park right at your doorstep.

In fact, the office is in the national park.

He kōrero mōu : What we are looking for

As the Ranger, Community you will have a positive, outgoing personality and enjoy working within a close-knit team. You will have extensive experience in working with communities, the ability to read and interpret DOCs plans and strategies and excellent communication skills.

Your ability to think strategically and act operationally will contribute to the successful planning, prioritising and scheduling of work programmes across the district.

You will be confident interacting with people from all walks of life, and the natural ability to switch between tasks effortlessly.

There can be times when the workload will be high so you will need to be able to remain calm and focused and work well under pressure.

Key Skills

  • Strong communicator with the ability to interpret, explain and convey complex information
  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant field OR equivalent experience
  • A proven background of working with communities
  • The ability to read and understand and work with statutory planning documents
  • Self-aware and agile to adapt as the role requirements evolve
  • Strong health and safety focus
  • A current full driving license
  • There is affordable accommodation in one of the nine DOC houses in St Arnaud.
