To support our growth GHD are seeking an enthusiastic, highly motivated, emerging hydrogeologist to join our team in Christchurch.

This position provides a unique opportunity for the right person to apply their analytical skills into this specialist area of environmental science, across a range of projects both community & infrastructure orientated.

We place a high-value on passion & drive for success, so are presenting this role as an opportunity for a person who is either starting their career in Hydrogeology and / or someone with up 5 years-experience who is looking to expand their skills to the next level.

Working with the technical leaders and critical projects, this position offers great variety of opportunity that will see you involved in :

  • Supporting the development of proposals for hydrogeological and water sciences in the Christchurch region and across New Zealand.
  • Supporting delivery of both conceptual and technical hydrogeological services, with strong focus and desire to learn analytical applications, including MODFLOW, AquiferWin32, AQTESOLV, Arc Hydro Groundwater, or an establishing knowledge in use of these applications already.
  • Interest in learning analytical applications in surface water modelling, statistical analysis and GIS, or an introductory knowledge in these applications already.
  • Supporting delivery of environmental field investigations, including hydrogeological assessments and in-situ aquifer characterization and other environmental investigations, including setting up of remote sensing and continuous environmental monitoring equipment.
  • Support of contaminated land investigations, particularly those with contaminated groundwater.
  • Supporting the development of creative solutions to fit the needs of our clients and communities.
  • Supporting the preparation of technical reports, management plans and strategies.
  • Working within a highly coordinated national team, within a highly experienced and collaborative team.
  • What you will bring to the team

  • Desire to advance technically in specialist environmental areas, primarily hydrogeology, while maintaining a broad appreciation of scientific application in the real world.
  • Ideally some established specialist skills in Hydrogeology, Hydrology and / or Water Sciences.
  • Strong interest in analytical modelling applications and learning respective software applications. Some computer science background desired but not essential.
  • Developing knowledge of environmental challenges facing regional communities within New Zealand with view of how important water resource assets are to communities.
  • Desire to achieve excellent, successful outcomes for communities through technical assessment and planning.
  • Have excellent communication and client management skills.
  • Sound written and verbal skills, with the ability to communicate complex issues concisely.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification.
