The Stroke Foundation is dedicated to reducing the incidence of stroke, improving treatment outcomes and supporting those affected by stroke.

Every day, 24 New Zealanders have a stroke and we need exceptional people working in our team to provide an effective service for stroke survivors and their families in the community.

We are looking to appoint a part time (30 hours per week) Community Stroke Advisor to provide services to stroke people and their families / whanau in the Upper Harbour area in Auckland.

This is an opportunity to make a real difference at a critical time in people's lives.

If you consider yourself a motivated person who has the ability to support a family during a time of crisis, leading them through the challenges of their life after stroke and can help people to get the support that they need, then we would like to hear from you.

Ideally the appointee will also have group facilitation and community education skills, and an interest in supporting our national health promotion work.

The position would suit someone with experience in working with people living with a disability. Preferred applicants will have a community health or social services background, with associated networking skills, and should have knowledge of the effects of stroke and strategies for their day to day management.

To be part of our team it is essential that you :

  • Have well developed communication and administrative skills;
  • Are competent using a computer and accessing the internet;
  • Have a current NZ motor vehicle drivers licence;
  • Have access to a reliable vehicle (mileage will be reimbursed);
  • Be able to work independently as well as part of a wider team;
  • Have the ability to provide community based education presentations;
  • Have the ability to network successfully.
  • The appointee could work from either a dedicated site or home office within the region, with a laptop and mobile phone supplied.
