With the goal of elevating the data practice and capability to the next level, you'll drive real, actionable changes within the business and see first hand the effect this has.

As the Lead Data Engineer you will be instrumental in helping the Mercury team gain an in depth understanding of Mercury's customers and the wider electricity and gas markets.

While this new team will initially work with the retail and customer component of the business, successful outcomes from this work will open up future opportunities across multiple other business units ripe for transformation.

Role snapshot : Bringing an exceptional background in your technical field combined with experience in developing / supporting the application of data engineering models in a commercial context, you will be the go to person for all things data engineering related.

With an existing team eager to learn and develop, you will help guide, mentor and take ownership of uplifting the overall data engineering capability.

It goes without saying that to do this you'll be the type who thrives on staying up to date with the latest in relevant technology trends.

As much as you love seeing others grow, you still have a passion for the hands on work. You will take a keen focus on improving data engineering standards and practices and enhancing the current environment and QA process wherever possible.

This will include the research, identification and design of new solution architecture, ensuring alignment with relevant architectural standards.

In addition, you'll also provide leadership and on-going support for any project work and assist with high priority escalated service requests.

To achieve all this, you'll liaise with a diverse range of stakeholders working closely with data scientists and business leaders.

In short, your work will lay the foundation for the data science process. Your curiosity for new methods and technologies and enthusiasm for data engineering challenges will inspire not only your team, but others from the wider business.

To be successful in this role you will need : Senior data engineering skillset (5+ years), with a proven ability to technically lead and mentor colleaguesCommercial business-

facing project experience, including working in cross functional agile teamsSolid experience with at least two of the following technologies : Python, Scala, SQL, JavaThe ability to work across structured, semi-

structured, and unstructured data, extracting information and identifying linkages across disparate data setsGood experience in multiple database technologies such as : Distributed Processing (Spark, Hadoop, EMR), Traditional RDBMS (MS SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL), NoSQL (MongoDB, DynamoDB, Cassandra, Neo4J, Titan)Experience and interest in Cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, Google Platform or DatabricksExcellent written and verbal communication skills and able to clearly communicate complex solutions with the businessExperience liaising with a diverse range of stakeholders, influencing and gaining "buy in'Ref : CMJO-
