About the role

The Director HR Operations leads the provision of shared HR services to MSD, the Ministry of Vulnerable Children Oranga Tamariki and the Social Welbeing Agency.

These services include payroll and HR Management Systems (CHRIS21 and Success Factors) to over 15,600 employees. The Director manages Recruitment, Vetting, Advisory and Reporting teams providing services to MSD.

This is a critical role within the People Group Leadership Team, working collaboratively with colleagues, whose responsibilities include strategy development, employee relations and business partnership.

You will role model great service, set high performance expectations for your team and be striving for continuous improvement.

You will have senior experience leading large HR delivery teams, as you will lead a team of HR managers and over 100 employees in your operations group.

You will engage with senior executive teams within MSD (and with other agencies) and provide robust HR advice and support.

You will be adaptive to new approaches, maximising technology and business re-engineering opportunities to add value to the customers you service.

You will enjoy working in a fast paced, agile and responsive environment and your confidence to manage complex demands will see you excel in the role.

Skills and experience

To be successful in this role you will have :

  • Senior leadership and management experience within a large organisation (preferably government)
  • Experience leading large teams and growing a constructive culture
  • Proven expertise in delivering excellent customer service and achieving performance standards
  • A strong background in HR systems and processes
  • Ability to lead, model, contribute to, and advocate for best practice HR at all levels
  • Ability to make the connection and translate HR strategic development into an operational reality
  • Experience in leading and implementing continuous improvement and business re-engineering
