Reporting to the CEO, and managing a team of six, the General Manager People & Culture will provide strategic direction and operational support to PowerNet’s 300 team members.

This role covers the spectrum of human resource management including; planning, payroll, industrial and employment relations, employee engagement and recruitment.

The General Manager People & Culture will also be responsible for internal and external communications, including media management.

This role would suit a highly experienced Human Resource professional who is able to relate to all levels of the business.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to) :

  • Lead the execution of the HR strategic plan and recommend improvement initiatives.
  • Assess PowerNet’s capability framework, ensuring competencies are embedded throughout the organisation.
  • Review staff remuneration, benefits and recruitment policies in order to attract top talent to the Southland and Otago region and PowerNet.
  • Assist leaders with performance management and leadership development.
  • Constructively manage relationships with team members, unions, board members and external customers.
  • Ensure all policies and procedures meet statutory requirements and are aligned with PowerNet values and best practice.
  • To be successful in this role, you will :

  • Hold a tertiary level qualification in Human Resources Management (or equivalent).
  • Have demonstrated extensive experience in a Human Resource Management position.
  • Have excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Be passionate and diligent about staying up-to-date with current legislation and best practice HR, ideally as a member of HRINZ.
