About the role
We are looking for a Process Control Engineer to join our Shipping and Logistics Output Team at NZAS, Tiwai Point. You will be accountable for optimising process control strategies, supporting business improvement projects, and the identification, reporting and response to plant and process variation.
The role focuses on our Torbed and Bath Plant processes along with our Alumina shed facility.

You will undertake ground-breaking work to modernise our Alumina Shed driving process improvement and automation. The role will also aid the team to work through alternatives for waste management as a result of the discontinuation of land fill.
Reporting to the Superintendent Shipping and Logistics and working in a challenging and exciting environment, you will be :
Promoting best practice and standardisation of operations and response between crews
Monitoring key measures and troubleshooting day-to-day issues to keep the Torbed and Bath Plant processes in control
Liaising with the Reduction and Carbon technical teams to ensure issues are solved and improved upon
Routine reporting, data collection and maintenance of data
Facilitating defect elimination work between the operators and maintenance and ensure forward planning is utilised and communicated to stakeholders
Developing and coaching shipping operators in process and technical understanding
Supporting the business improvement (BI) drive by initiating, running and validating improvement projects to reduce variation, and improve process capability of key metrics
What you will bring
A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team.
A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Metallurgy, Material Handling, Science or Mathematics or similar; or relevant experience in a technically focused industrial Process Control role
Proven ability to analyse data using statistical tools to identify changes in the process;
Experience running SCADA systems
Exposure to material handling, stockpiles, etc. advantageous
Excellent communication skills and an ability to quickly create and maintain good working relationships at all levels;
Competency in planning and managing development projects;
Self-motivation and be keen to progress your career;
Strong computer literacy including Microsoft Office, SAP and specific systems relevant to the role including CMR, PIMS and SCADA skills
Training or experience in project management is advantageous
Six Sigma qualifications are also desirable
