As New Zealand's national statistics office, Tatauranga Aotearoa Stats NZ is uniquely positioned to support the decisions that the Government, Māori and Iwi organisations, businesses, NGO's and New Zealanders make every day.

Our structure, culture and systems are designed with collaboration and customers in mind - mobilised and working together to realise our ambition : About Aotearoa, for Aotearoa - data that improves lives today and for generations to come.

Reporting to the Pou Whakahaere ā Ture - Legal Counsel you will become part of a small team. The team consists of two lawyers and two privacy advisors (the Senior Advisor and an Advisor).

You will work closely with a range of teams within Stats NZ who handle data, provide access to data and broker data supplies.

You will also be the Privacy Officer for Stats NZ.

Stats NZ has a busy and interesting work programme; with an increased focus on working with and delivering for Māori, delivering corporate services collaboratively and simply, and being transparent about what we're doing.

As a Kaitohutohu Matua Tūmataiti - Senior Privacy Advisor, you will be :

Leading Stats NZ's privacy programme and working closely with our Privacy Advisor

Establishing and maintaining a network of relevant stakeholders and collaborators.

Providing timely quality advice which is relevant to its recipients and is influential.

Providing healthy challenge and thought leadership; growing the levels of understanding of Privacy by Design and respect for privacy.

This role is a full-time (37.5hrs per week) permanent position based primarily in the Wellington office. Working from home, flexibility to accommodate life / work balance and virtual collaboration are also normal parts of life at Stats NZ.

Stats NZ is open to considering an appointment for less than full time hours and / or variation to working week or fortnight norms.

You'll be someone who is already proud to call yourself a Privacy Geek. You'll be looking for a chance to have real influence and make an impact you can be proud of.

You'll get justifiably frustrated when respect for people's information is seen as a bother or just a compliance issue. But you'll be happy to meet Stats NZ staff "where they are" and to use your skills and passion to lift their knowledge and capability.

You'll be joining an inclusive environment where people, regardless of gender, race, disability, religion, or background are supported to be able to do their best work. This includes :

An environment where you can be yourself.

Opportunity to develop and grow your skills and career.

Exciting and meaningful work that makes a difference to Aotearoa.

Dedication to diversity, equity, inclusion, health, and wellbeing.
