Since 2001 the Beautification Trust have been activating communities by coordinating environmental education, community events and beautification projects all over South Auckland. Their vision is to 'Inspire communities to love and respect the environment'.
He angitūtanga: The opportunity
Following the success of previous years, they are after two new voluntary Associate members to join them, supporting growing the Trust's diversity by providing new voices at the Board table. The role is expected to grow and develop over time; however, the Trust is seeking the voices of Rangatahi (the younger generation) to add diversity and new perspective to current decision making.
It is volunteer based, for the period of 1 year in which they provide supported development to build future governance potential, while maintaining a fun, vibrant and effective not for profit/social enterprise environment.
He kōrero mōu: About you
They are looking for someone with a can-do approach who will bring innovation, creativity and experience to the role. You will have a passion for the community and interest in starting your journey in governance.
Some of your responsibilities will include:
- Attend Trust Board hui
- Contribute 3-5 hours of time per month, for a period of a year
- Participate in discussions & the planning of a project with the Trust Executive/Management
- Attend Trustee Training & Strategic Planning sessions
- Attend at least one community volunteering option
- Provide a report, in a form of your choice, on your experiences twice a year

This role enables you to provide a voice for the community regarding important issues and is a remarkable opportunity to develop your governance experience.
You will develop a great understanding and knowledge of board processes & discussions, governance strategic documents and understanding in the behind the scenes processes of the organisation. It will provide you with hands on experience discussing issues, maintaining Board relationships and participating in the Trusts processes and functions.
An existing board member will be provided as a mentor to guide you through this programme, ensuring supportive conditions that enable you to fully participate and thrive in. This is an awesome opportunity to develop your experience and have your voice be heard in Board discussions & decision-making.
Towards the end of the fixed-term position you will play a vital part in being a tuakana for the next incoming associate, allowing a smooth transition between yourselves.
