We are one of the most creative and influential urban design teams in the city and one of the largest public sector design teams in the world.

We are home to both the Auckland Design Manual (ADM) and the City Centre Masterplan (CCMP) and are recognised internationally for our ability to shape the urban design conversation in Auckland and overseas.

Auckland is currently experiencing unprecedented growth and investment in public and private sector housing, town centre revitalisation, transport infrastructure, and public realm transformation.

We expect this to continue over the next ten years and we have a key role in shaping the direction that the City takes over this time -

ensuring maximum benefit for all Aucklanders. To help us in this mission, we have an exciting opportunity for a Principal Urban Designer to join us.

He angitūtanga : The opportunityThis is an exciting career opportunity for a highly experienced urban designer who has a particular strength and passion for achieving quality outcomes for the City through the design review process.

As a Principal Urban Designer you will be leading the review of a diverse mix of proposals that have a range of urban design issues and opportunities.

This is a customer facing role working with people to negotiate the best urban design outcomes for private developments and council led projects.

You will have design tools like the Auckland Design Manual and the Auckland Urban Design Panel to help you raise the 'design quality bar' for Auckland.

Working in a collaborative team environment you will have the opportunity to work across the Council family, forging relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

You will also be using your mentoring skills to work with our graduates and specialists across the ADO to share your technical expertise and help them to develop their urban design thinking.

He kōrero mōu : About youYou are a qualified urban designer / architect with a senior level of experience. Proven knowledge of strategy and policy, working in a consenting regime, and delivering urban design projects and masterplans will be critical to the success of this role.

The successful candidate will be able to lead and mentor design staff as necessary. You will also need strategic dexterity to influence and operate successfully across large, complex, and often politically-
