NIWA is New Zealand's leading natural resources and environmental science services provider, specialising in atmospheric, freshwater and marine research.
The Environmental Isotopes and Molecular Biology group at NIWA is seeking an experienced Molecular Technician to provide technical support for molecular biology research projects across NIWA.
The technician will liaise with NIWA staff to perform DNA extraction, amplification and both sanger and high throughput sequencing (HTS) workflows for a range of organisms to support biodiversity and biosecurity projects and will assist with high throughput ddPCR screening.
The appointee will undertake laboratory management tasks including maintaining PC2 laboratory containment standards. While the main focus will be on the provision of these services at NIWA's Greta Point campus, there may be a requirement to undertake some aspects of these duties in ship's laboratories at sea.
Other general laboratory duties will be undertaken as required.
Candidates should have a Bachelor or Masters degree in Molecular Biology and knowledge and experience of modern molecular biology laboratory techniques including PCR and high throughput sequencing workflows.
We are seeking someone with demonstrated ability to keep precise and detailed records of laboratory work and the ability to work cooperatively in a team environment as a member of a multidisciplinary research organization.
The appointee should have a proven track record showing their experience with HTS workflows and data analysis, and their ability to assist with preparation of research reports and material for presentations.
NIWA offers competitive remuneration and benefits and an attractive waterfront location with free parking.
