We are seeking a New Zealand Registered Medical Laboratory Scientist who has had extensive experience in haematology and would like to join a dynamic and progressive laboratory team by taking charge of our Routine Automation Section.
Middlemore Hospital is a 950 bed Hospital and is one of New Zealand’s busiest and most diverse teaching hospitals with a large Emergency Department, Dialysis Unit, National Burns Unit, Regional Plastic Surgery, Neonatal Unit, ICU and paediatric, general surgical, orthopaedic and medical wards.
The Haematology department is situated at the Middlemore Hospital campus and provides a 24 hour service for Middlemore and Kidz First Hospitals and the Manukau Health Park.
The Haematology department is involved in teaching technical and medical staff and has close links with the Clinical Haematology service.
A wide range of diagnostic haematology testing is provided using automated systems for cell counts and cell morphology, a comprehensive coagulation test service and Special Haematology section for bone marrow processing and haemoglobinopathy testing.
oversight of internal and external quality control; training, supervision and credentialing of staff; stock and documentation control and evaluation and implementation of new instrumentation as required.
This is a permanent full-time position with some weekend work and participation in a call roster required. You will work with the Charge Scientist, Consultant Haematologists and Haematology team to deliver a quality laboratory service.
This position provides an opportunity to take a leadership role within the department.The successful applicant will have had at least 5 years’ experience in a large Haematology Laboratory, be a registered member of the Medical Sciences Council in New Zealand and have a current APC.
