At the National Library, we support reading engagement and learning in schools by providing knowledge, expertise, support and access to a wide range of learning and reading resources and services.

The Reading Services librarian is responsible for providing learning resources and information services to schools including : The Lending Service to support literacy and learning in schoolsThe provision of online reference services for studentsSupporting reading engagement initiatives for school communitiesWe are looking for someone with : Knowledge and passion for children s literature, and both print and online learning resources, to support learning and literacy in schools.

An understanding of the importance of reading and who themselves read widelyAn understanding of how the New Zealand curriculums are delivered in schoolsAn understanding of library systems and services for young peopleExcellent communication and interpersonal skills, including willingness to present to diverse groups of peopleAn ability to show initiative, solve problems and work well in teamsWell-developed digital literacy and willingness to learn new skillsA positive attitude, is energetic and has an excellent work ethicKnowledge of Te reo Māori, tikanga Māori and / or Pasifika languages would be an advantage.

Services to Schools is part of the National Library of New Zealand which sits in the Information and Knowledge Services branch of the Department of Internal Affairs.
