KiwiRail is New Zealand's national railway, employing around 3,400 talented people in a wide range of business functions.

Our teams are responsible for maintaining 4,000 kilometres of rail corridor, bridges, tunnels, viaducts, overhead wires, signals and level crossings.

We are going through a period of significant growth and investment and to support us with this we have exciting 12 month fixed term Trainee Track Worker opportunities available so you can start a career in rail in Invercargill

As a member of the maintenance team you will be required to work efficiently in a team environment to carry out maintenance, repairs and renewals of the infrastructure asset in a safe, cost effective and timely manner.

This is an outdoor role so a high level of physical fitness is essential and you must be willing to work in all weather conditions.

A Clean NZ Drivers Licence, Class 1 is essential in this role. It would also be advantageous to have a Class 2 (HT Licence) or the ability to gain one.

Ideally, you will have experience within the construction industry and be able to demonstrate the ability to follow safety guidelines and be results driven.

It would be advantageous to have experience in heavy labouring work and hands on experience with light mechanical hand tools.

A solid level of both verbal and written communication is also important in this role.

You must also be able to pass a Ministry of Justice check and complete a mandatory medical and drug test to be considered for this role.

You must have full working rights to NZ to apply for this role as it cannot support a visa application.
