Are you a self-motivated energetic person with excellent communication skills and willingness to learn?

The Whakatāne District Council's Transportation Group is seeking a self-motivated Engineering Cadet to assist in the operational management and maintenance of the District's roading network.

The successful applicant must be committed to undertaking training for an NZ Diploma of Civil Engineering, and to utilising the skills and knowledge they acquire to help deliver effective roading outcomes for our community.

This is a fixed-term position for a period of four years to support and enable the cadet to successfully complete the Diploma and attain practical experience in the role.

To be successful in this role, you will have :

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work as part of a close-knit team;
  • A willingness to learn and commitment to achieving required study outcomes;
  • Competent skills with computers and in particular use of Microsoft Word and Excel and general database management;
  • Outstanding planning and time management skills to get the job done right, documents recorded accurately and a commitment to health and safety processes;
  • Strong relationship-building skills to develop and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders;
  • NCEA Level 2, with a minimum of 48 credits in four subjects, including at least 12 credits in mathematics.
