KiwiRail is New Zealand's national railway, employing talented people in a wide range of business functions. Our teams are responsible for maintaining 4,000 kilometers of rail corridor, bridges, tunnels, viaducts, overhead wires, signals and level crossings.

Your Role :

Based in our Westfield depot in Otahuhu, Auckland but working across the North Island, we are looking for a Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Operator to use ultrasonic and other means testing to detect rail failures out in the field and in the Railweld depot.

You will undertake a set programme to carry out these tests and inspections. Any failures will be documented, and report findings passed on to Asset Managers and Engineers for action.

You will also use your track skills to undertake other track related quality inspections and checks as directed.

Reporting to the Field Production Manager you will work normal hours 07h30 - 16h00 Tuesday to Thursday but will also be expected to work night shifts twice every 3 months when ultrasound car (hi-rail vehicle) inspections in Auckland and Wellington take place.

Your Skills :

  • Good knowledge of rail infrastructure codes and standards (essential)
  • Be NDT trained and have experience in ultra-sonic testing (advantageous)
  • Have a current Class 1 licence with a Class 2 (HT) drivers licence advantageous
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Must be computer literate to generate reports
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills to resolve conflict
  • Be able to lead by example and work without direct supervision
  • Demonstrate a commitment to Health and Safety
