Head of Site Engineering / Facilities is responsible for the technical and strategic leadership of the Engineering Function and facilities at the Site.

You will lead, coach, and develop the engineering team to excel in line with Elanco Engineering and Manufacturing principles.

This is a critical role on the Site Leadership Team, who collectively set and drive the mission for the Site.

This is also a critical Global role and connects with the broader Global Engineering Function.

The position offers an excellent opportunity for you to take that step to owning and leading a function at a Site where you can learn, develop, and grow in an inclusive and supportive leadership team.

Key Responsibilities : As well as a critical role on the Site Leadership Team, the Engineering head is accountable for all aspects of engineering at the Site across multiple technologies.

This includes; Leadership

  • Leadership and performance management for the Site Engineering team
  • Developing the long-term strategy for the engineering function and a strategic investment plan for the Site facilities
  • Development of technical talent and leaders for Engineering and other Manufacturing functions across Elanco Engineering Team Accountability
  • Ensuring all the Site assets are qualified, maintained and recapitalized to ensure compliance with Elanco standards & capability
  • Support to manufacturing operations to achieve production goals in a manner that meets health, safety, environmental and quality expectations
  • Driving continuous improvement of assets to improve overall equipment effectiveness and optimize resources
  • Planning and execution of capital investments in an effective and efficient way Maintenance
  • Lead and manage the maintenance teams to ensure all assets in the facility are maintained throughout their lifecycle
  • Establish and manage preventative maintenance system which clearly documents the specific checks that need to be performed to ensure asset reliability
  • Establish and manage the spare part inventory management process ensuring spare parts inventory management and are available for use when needed
  • Ensure all SOPs related to maintenance are available and personnel are trained
  • Ensure payments associated with maintenance task are processed on time
  • Lead / collaborate in Operation Excellence activities to promote efficiency whilst reducing overall cost
  • Investigate process efficiencies within engineering function to gain process efficiencies and in turn improve the team productivity
  • Ensure contracts are established for all service providers
  • Ensure facility related services are managed effectively and provide valued services to the site employees
  • Ensure facility related compliance (eg BWOF etc) are completed in a timely manner ensuring compliant operations Projects :
  • Manage the site CAPEX Plan / budget including reporting of performance
  • Manage CAPEX forecasting for the site and support Budget Planning
  • Lead Site projects associated with upgrade activities, ensuring cost and timely delivery is managed
  • Negotiates contracts with technical service providers for projects and ensure relevant contracts are in place prior to project commencement.
  • Provide technical solutions to upgrade activities ensuring projects can be managed with budgeted costs
  • Work collaborative with key project stakeholders Global engineering, Quality, Production, HSE, SCM and Operation Excellence to ensure key deliverables are met
  • Ensure HSE related tasks associated with the upgrade projects are executed and completed
  • Understanding the organisations regulatory requirements around GMP, HSE and DG to ensure compliance with legal requirements.
  • Ensure project related documentation is in compliant with accounting / finance, procurement, legal requirements
  • Timely reporting of project status and financials Finance :
  • Responsible for the management of the Engineering department OPEX ensuring cost controlling to bring department costs within budget.
  • Responsible for the management of the site CAPEX ensuring CAPEX plans are executed as committed
  • Ensure department monthly reporting are completed in a timely manner Health and Safety :
  • Ensure all hazards are identified and where responsible actioned appropriately and in timely manner through the process of elimination, minimization and isolation.
  • Ensure all incidents / accidents are reported as per the company Health Safety Environment requirements.
  • Ensure all contractors are inducted and documentation completed prior to commencing work on site
  • Ensure all engineering personnel and contractors have appropriate PPE identified, usage trained, and sufficient PPE provided
  • Ensure engineering personnel JSAs are completed providing clear guidance on tasks performed and corresponding protective measures taken from an HSE perspective.
  • Support and lead the PHA process for process on site Additional Duties :
  • Support the M&Q team by participating in the daily production meeting to provide effective timely solutions for problems that delay supply of quality products from the site.
  • Activity involved in all Technical processes on floor with staff and contractors to ensure all the protocols and procedures are followed and where necessary assist individuals and teams.
  • Raise, investigate and close out assigned deviations within set timelines
  • Raise Change Request with supporting documentation and ensure closure of change applications and work packages within set timelines. Minimum Requirements :
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (e.g.
  • Mechanical, or related discipline)

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a pharmaceutical or manufacturing environment
  • A good working knowledge of GMP and quality systems (Pharmaceutical Industry experience)
  • Project Management Experience having executed projects >
  • $1 Million.

  • A good working knowledge of Auckland Council Building code
  • Proficient in MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel and basic applications of statistical tools Additional Preferences : Be able to demonstrate past achievements in;
  • Leading an engineering team and technical agenda to achieve quantifiable successes with optimized resources
  • Coaching and developing individuals and teams to improve technical capability or delivery
  • Appropriate technical depth, curiosity and decision making in ambiguous situations or whilst under pressure
  • Demonstrated communication and influence to gain support and confidence in a technical agenda
  • Organizational influence and collaboration to leverage and drive a broader improvement agenda at both the site and within the global engineering function Other Information :
  • Monday through Friday work schedule with situations that may arise where off-schedule work, both on site and off site may be required
  • Domestic and international travel required on a periodic basis to visit manufacturing sites and for significant business initiatives.
