    The role of Vegetation Control Liaison is to liaise with landowners and relevant Councils in order to remove or minimise the risk of interference by the owner's vegetation with Unison's assets.

    Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and record data regarding trees and vegetation that pose a risk to the Network's field based assets, including the assessment of scale and impact of the risk.
  • Identify the owners of trees posing risk to the network, inform them of the regulations and issue cut notices where required
  • Negotiate with tree owners to achieve solutions (within a provided framework).
  • Assess the work effort and resources required to remedy the risk and (where required) provide a priced quotation to the owner of the trees and planting schemes near power lines.
  • Liaise with owners of private service mains where trees pose a threat to electrical safety.
  • Provide inspection and quotation services for any other tree work undertaken by the company.
  • In the event of storm damage or other civil emergency, to provide information and condition reporting of the Networks field assets.
  • Carry out other duties and responsibilities from time to time which are generally consistent with the objectives of the position.
  • Assist HSE / Quality Coordinator monitor and ensure appropriate training is undertaken.
  • Make recommendations to Management for plant and equipment that meets on-going business requirements.
  • Ensure work sites are audited periodically and formally reported.
  • Input to the Asset and Risk Management undertaking by UNL.
  • Assist with reporting to both UNL and UCSL deliverables and forward projections and trends.
  • Work closely with other Vegetation Controller Liaisons and Vegetation Planner, in order to improve methods, practices and productivity.
  • Maintain productive working relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Applicants must have excellent communication skills and be able to confidently and diplomatically liaise with people of all cultures and levels.

    Qualifications and experience required

  • Arborist qualifications, or line mechanic with extensive tree cutting experience
  • Knowledge of the following Code of Practices : ACOP Maintenance of Trees around Power LinesPower Operated Elevating Working PlatformsSafety and Health in Forest Operations
  • Thorough understanding and practical application of the policy document NK1003
  • Thorough knowledge of all field aspects of vegetation around electrical network distribution systems
  • Ability to operate a field data capture and GPS device
  • Excellent computer literacy - experience with all aspects of Microsoft products
