About the Team

This is an Auckland based position reporting to the Deputy Manager MPRS (Marine Pollution Response Service). This Senior Advisor role is part of a team responsible for the strategic, intelligence and planning functions for maritime incident readiness and response, in particular for marine oil spill readiness and response (for operator, regional and national-level marine oil spill responses).

About the role

It is expected that the Senior Advisor will undertake an active operational / coordination position within a response during any significant or major maritime incident.

The role will be required to travel and work for periods of time domestically and, at times, internationally, as readiness and response activities require.

  • You will also be responsible for taking a systems approach for MPRS activities and response activities. This systems approach recognises that decisions and actions in one organisational area will affect other areas;
  • this applies directly to the interactions between MPRS' three teams (Strategy & Systems, Training & Exercising, and Technical Services).

    About you

    Ideally you will have :

  • Strong leadership skills in an operational or operational support role
  • Highly developed communication skills
  • Experience in intelligence and planning, and an operational familiarisation with CIMS
  • Skills in systems thinking, project management, process thinking and quality assurance
  • Proven experience in emergency management operations
  • Relevant tertiary qualification
  • A good standard of fitness
  • Marine oil spill experience and marine oil spill contingency planning experience
  • Familiarity with offshore oil exploration and production facilities and activities
  • Relationship management skills and the ability to network and influence at a range of levels in industry, government and the wider community.
