Professor in Human Resource Management and

Employment Relations

Position Purpose To enhance the learning and qualification outcomes of Massey's

students and the scholarly outputs of the University by : undertaking

an effective programme of teaching; undertaking research including

research supervision of students; engaging in the pursuit of

external funding; providing administrative and professional service

to the University and broader academic or professional

communities; and developing a programme of co-curricular

activities to enhance experiential learning.

Job Title : Senior Lecturer / Associate Professor

Context :

This role fits in with our continuous innovation and development of

student centred learning. The ideal candidate will be a senior academic

ready to provide experience and influence as a member of a team of

HR / ER academics and professional staff to developing a programme of

teaching and research that reflects the need of both our national and


Accountability 1 Teaching / Supervision

Provide leadership in curriculum innovation in Management and / or

Human Resource Management and Employment Relations to the

school in general and to your home campus in particular.

Undertake teaching and associated administrative tasks of paper(s) at

undergraduate and postgraduate level to which you are requested to

contribute in ways that are consistent with the university, college and

school expectations. This may include block mode / campus

courses / regional courses on a different campus to where you are

normally situated, and use of the designated learning management


Develop and teach major curriculum components of courses, in

conjunction with colleagues in the discipline group.

Undertake continuing personal and professional development.

Accountability 2 Research

Provide research leadership to the school.

Undertake an active, appropriate and viable personal research

programme or participate in team-based research.

Publish papers or other scholarly works in academic journals and

review papers.

Present research and act as a discussant at academic conferences.

Generate research funding e.g., through submission of funding

applications to appropriate bodies.

Undertake professional development activities consistent with


Supervise the research activities of graduate and undergraduate

students and assist in the supervision of students / research projects

at a postgraduate level.

Work collaboratively with colleagues.

Accountability 3 Administration

Undertake administration of paper(s) to which you are requested to

Cooperate with colleagues within the school and beyond and share

school objectives to advance the knowledge and practice of

Accountability 4 Community Engagement

Participate in community service activities that further advance the

profession or field, create learning and research opportunities, and

which are consistent with the university’s charter and strategic plan.

Assist the school to develop an environment that gives effect to the

obligations of the Treaty of Waitangi.

Accountability 5 University Responsibilities

Serve on university and / or school committees.

Ensure the observance of university policy and codes of practice in all

teaching, research, community service and administrative practices.

Comply with the university's obligation under its charter regarding

equal employment and the Treaty of Waitangi.

Contribute to the development of a school working environment of

teamwork and cooperation.

Any other duties as required by the Head of School.

Qualifications and Experience

Qualifications : Relevant PhD or equivalent qualification and demonstrated teaching and

research expertise in Management, Human Resource Management,

Employment Relations or related discipline.

Experience : A record of accomplishment in research including the ability to

produce high quality refereed journal articles, along with a willingness

to pursue external research funding.

Demonstrated teaching expertise in relevant discipline at tertiary level.

Demonstrated engagement with practice and co-curricular activities

Capabilities :
