We have an exciting vacancy in our Operations team based in Twizel / Te Manahuna. We're looking for someone who enjoys the outdoors, has lots of practical skills and wants to work as part of a motivated team of people charged with protecting and enhancing our natural environment.

He angitūtanga : About the Role

Based in Twizel, the primary focus of this role is weed control throughout the Mackenzie Basin, Upper Waitaki and Aoraki / Mount Cook National Park.

You may also be required to support other work programs within the wider district or region.

As a member of the biodiversity team, you will help deliver :

  • All tasks and functions associated with the weed control programme using a variety of methods including but not limited to knapsacks, truck mounted gun -hose and cut paste.
  • Lead seasonal employees and volunteers in the field.
  • Assist in pest control and other biodiversity threats related tasks.

    The successful applicant will ideally have :

    We are looking for a highly motivated team member who has skills and / or experience in :

  • Identifying and controlling environmental weeds using a variety of methods
  • Current Growsafe / Approved Handlers certificate
  • A full driver's licence and experience operating 4WD vehicles.
  • Experience with GIS applications
  • A current first aid certificate
  • The successful applicant will work a 5-day week but may be required to work hours outside of this, particularly during the busy season.

    The role is based in Twizel and requires working remotely with the potential for overnights in backcountry huts. The role is physically demanding so a high level of fitness is required.
