What we are looking for : The Payroll Compliance and Project Manager is part of the New Zealand-based Finance Team which undertakes the Finance function for all of Xero’s worldwide operations.

The Pay Team, within the wider Finance Team, is a global shared service. The purpose of the role is to establish and manage compliance monitoring, manage and lead projects, and identify and implement well-researched improvement processes.

You’ll have strong in-depth knowledge across all payroll functions and New Zealand legislative requirements, leveraging your payroll project / system implementation experience.

As part of this you will be responsible for ensuring that recommendations are well researched and presented, enabling effective decision making, and ensuring that impacts, measurable benefits and results are identified.

This role will be based in Auckland or Wellington What you’ll do :

  • Identify, develop and implement solutions and processes to support the Pay Team’s effective, efficient and compliant processing of Xero’s payrolls.
  • Take a lead role to identify, scope and manage the execution of projects that align with the Pay Team’s strategic priorities, with the support of the Head of Payroll.
  • Prepare for and ensure smooth running of projects, managing actions and following up with team members to ensure tasks are completed on time.
  • Review and audit of payroll services in accordance with organisational policies and procedures and in line with the legislative, business and auditing requirements.
  • Keep up to date with legislative changes across all jurisdictions, and researching any payroll or tax issues that arise.
  • Support the Pay Team with the review of payroll fillings including company specific payroll returns, tax returns, online filings with tax authorities, superannuation and worker’s compensation etc, ensuring all requirements are met within required timeframes.
  • Work with the Head of Payroll and Team Leads to implement and support training for the Pay Team. What you’ll bring :
  • Strong payroll knowledge and 7+ years’ experience in managing payroll
  • Strong practical process management skills including documentation and continuous quality improvement disciplines
  • Experience with NetSuite or similar cloud based payroll system would be advantage
  • Experience with payroll system implementation projects
  • Experience in managing payroll compliance and process improvements
