About the Company Our aspirations are to build a luxury brand supported by Nature s finest tasting salmon This success will not come from a superior tasting product it must be backed by a first class organisation that is transparent responsive and skilled to outperform any other organisation in its field At Mt Cook we celebrate individuals their talents their ideas and their contribution We encourage creative thinking personal development and open communication coalescing around a set of common organisation goals We will always acknowledge the pioneering spirit that started salmon farming in this remote location and will never stop listening to Nature and our interaction with the environment in which we operate About the Role The Farm Manager s role is based in Twizel Key Responsibilities are Farm Operations Effective operation of all farm activities ensuring that fish are healthy and grow to size at the agreed time with the appropriate feed Responsible for operations in detail in order to avoid fish losses Maintaining accurate records including Aquanetix eg feed fish stocks health and safety training of staff water quality and fish health Understanding and maintaining consent legislation requirements Fish welfare are maintained to company standards feeding amp health Take a proactive approach to health and safety As the Ruataniwha Farm site has been established as our farm training hub the Farm Managers is also responsible to ensure all new farm recruits are trained in basic farming tasks as per Mt Cook standards Staff Management Recruitment and day to day management of staff Ensure staff are appropriately trained and adhere to all Standard Operational Procedures SOP s and company policies As the farms training hub for new recruits deliver the required basic farm training to all new farm workers and track their progress Management of staff resources to meet business needs Responsible for site Health and Safety compliance including promoting and leading a team health and safety culture Financial To participate in budget Forecast discussions To have an understanding of the budget and how actuals are tracking compared to forecast budget To minimise operational costs where possible while maintaining hatchery operations Skills and Experience Qualifications Post secondary education specific to Aquaculture Proficiency in production planning using spreadsheets Proficiency in farm budgeting and management Proficiency in technical report writing Full NZ drivers licence or applicable international licence Fork Lift Class F Carry Dangerous Goods Class D Experience At least five years experience in freshwater aquaculture farming of Chinook Salmon or Rainbow Trout At least 24 months experience in managing a farm site with a work force of up to 10 people At least 12 months experience in training staff including formal tracking and coaching of staff progress Proven leadership experience with a track record of success in managing an aquaculture farm site
