About the role :
Ultimately the PrincipalAdvisor - Investments will be responsible for the success of Metlink’s funding andinvestment program.
You will drive improvements in Metlink’s investmentcapability, performance, and contribute to prioritising investments thatprovide clear social and economic benefits to the wider Wellington Region.
Youwill have a specific focus on lifting the capability of the Group’s ability toevaluate and assess investment performance over time.
This includes identifyingand assessing opportunities for continuous improvement and change in the formof investment advice to the General Manager Metlink, Chief Executive, Board andCouncillors as appropriate.
You will ensure that robustbusiness cases are developed for all service changes and capital investments,and manage relationships and processes to ensure a successful co fundingrelationship with Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency.
You will be responsible formanaging the integration of various processes required to secure Metlink’s longterm budget which will include consideration of fare strategies as well as localand central government funding.
The PrincipalAdvisor Investments is considered part of the extended Metlink leadershipteam and will also come with a variety of internal and external project managementresponsibilities.
You will be able to lead and manage change across the Group,and will have extensive experience at engaging and being influential at asenior management and governance level.
You will proactively champion thesharing of knowledge and take an active role in mentoring and coaching others.
To be successful you will needto be a naturally strategic thinker’ who can both critically review andpromote investments though a variety of quantitative and qualitative tools.
You’llneed to work in a collaborative fashion and become a trusted advisor to seniorleaders while also supporting and developing more junior members / analysts indelivering high grade analysis.
Most importantly you must be able convincinglyconvey the benefits of various investment opportunities to Peers, SeniorManagement and Politicians alike.
Skills and experiencerequired :
An appropriate tertiaryqualification, ideally with a business, finance, or science background (orequivalent knowledge, skills and experience)
Significant experience working withinvestment systems and processes, including economic analysis, budget andaccountability requirements and the use of performance information to informdecision-making
Significant experience developingbusiness cases and budget bids in either the private or public sectors
Understanding of business planningcycles and processes, budgeting cycles, contestable funding processes andthird-party monitoring
Ability to undertake financialanalysis and oversee / peer review investment modelling in relation to fundingrequests, complex investments, and / or investment portfolios
Ability to undertake investmentmonitoring and reporting, to support risk management and assurance
Successful experience working withand influencing Chief Executives, boards and senior executives
An ability to build consensus withmultiple parties on performance frameworks, measurement and reporting
Demonstrated experience providingquality, comprehensive reports at a senior level, including business casedevelopment, which cover benefits realisation, risk management and qualityassurance aspects
An ability to communicate with awide range of audiences on complex issues to a high standard and deliveringmessages in plain English
A track record of creating practicalsolutions to complex and ambiguous problems
Experience in transport orinfrastructure an advantage
Excellent interpersonal,relationship management and influencing skills
