Who we are

The Applications Support group within ITS is a team of skilled IT professionals, focused on supporting and maintaining a wide range of applications and systems that power our administrative, operational, teaching and research functions used by the wider University of Otago community.

The Role

This Applications Support Administrator position plays a crucial role in supporting a portfolio of applications and systems, keeping applications current & secure and providing bespoke troubleshooting and advice to users within your client base.

As part of the wider team, you will work on routine configurations, regular / small upgrades, releases & patches, testing, and proactive monitoring of performance as well as the provisioning of data for reporting purposes.

With a focus on continuous improvement, you will perform root cause analysis to prevent recurring issues, employ automation where it makes sense and adopt key ITIL processes in order to ensure operational outcomes for our customers are achieved.

We have systems where upgrades happen weekly, fortnightly or monthly. For these systems, you will run automated test scripts to ensure any upgrade does not have adverse impact and work to develop appropriate automated scripts.

You will also assist with developing and maintaining procedures, IT reference materials (including in-line documentation).

Key Tasks :

  • Participate in regular Application Upgrades and Testing.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of a suite of platforms and technologies (specific portfolio to be determined).
  • Provide effective, reliable applications support, advice and recommendations in a manner easily interpreted by stakeholders.
  • Develop and support standard reporting delivered via enterprise reporting (e.g. business objects) or ad hoc request for data and reporting from stakeholders.
  • Your Skills and Experience

  • A tertiary qualification in information technology or a business discipline.
  • A working knowledge of IT systems, ideally as they relate to the University environment.
  • Experience supporting enterprise wide applications, technologies or systems.
  • Good knowledge of a range of operating systems, their platforms and their network interactions.
