What you will do
You will enable the development of a cohesive organisational performance strategy by advising senior leadership through evidence-based research.
You will create an integrated strategic performance management framework that can be effectively applied across the NZ Defence Force.
Your key responsibilities include :
Leading the development of best-practice performance measurement and management processes to support evidence-based decision-making and organisational outcomes;
Supporting integrated strategic planning and reporting across the NZDF and associated key corporate documents;
Advising on current performance issues and identifying options for closing performance gaps; and
Preparing reports and communication of the NZDF performance to external stakeholders, including Ministers.
Please note : This role is referred to as Deputy Director Performance and Management internally within the NZDF.
What we need
You will be an influential, established leader within organisational management and performance with strong interpersonal skills.
You will have the ability to drive integration between effective strategic planning, performance, risk, and governance.
You will also bring :
7+ years’ experience in managing organisational performance in a large and complex organisation, ideally government;
In-depth strategic performance management experience with strong critical thinking and conceptual skills;
Understanding of the design and implementation of strong performance management and measurement methodologies and systems; and
An ability to critically think, analyse and challenge to effectively communicate insights to support objective strategic decision-making.
Who we are
Defence Strategy Management supports the Chief of Defence Force by managing the Defence Force’s strategy and planning, portfolio management, performance management and governance arrangements.
This includes :
Leading strategic planning and oversight of the Defence Force strategy;
Leading NZDF’s annual, four-year, and strategic planning processes, ensuring supporting plans are aligned with the Defence Force’s objectives;
Developing risk management strategies and processes and guiding the delivery of these throughout all levels of the Defence Force;
Providing strategic risk guidance to governance boards;
Strategic portfolio definition and prioritisation;
Monitoring delivery of plans and providing advice to improve performance;
Preparation of external accountability documents for the Chief of Defence Force; and
Governance support and advice.
