We have a new opportunity available for a litigation lawyer to join the in-house legal team as a Senior Lawyer on a 12-month fixed-term full-time contract to cover a period of parental leave.

We embrace flexible working options and would consider a part-time role for the right candidate.

The role will require you to provide advice on a diverse range of issues including :

  • Advising on policy response.
  • Policy wording drafting and review.
  • Advising on legislation changes and helping to ensure compliance.
  • Managing litigation conducted by panel firms as well as acting directly in certain Court matters and mediations.
  • Advising on liability claims against insureds and / or Vero.
  • Recovery actions against third parties.
  • Preparing submissions for tribunals, the Insurance and Financial Services Ombudsman and insurance related regulatory matters.
  • Advising on marketing and other communications, contractual issues including those relating to intermediaries.
  • Negotiating settlements.
  • Delivering training to the business.
  • This opportunity is a challenging one requiring you to liaise closely with a number of internal stakeholders including senior leaders across the business in NZ.

    What we are looking for :

  • Law Degree or equivalent and admission as a solicitor with current practising certificate in New Zealand (Mandatory)
  • 7+ years PQE in civil litigation in private or in-house practice
  • Working knowledge of insurance law in New Zealand
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • An ability to deal with a wide variety of people and to maintain and support strong working relationships with stakeholders
