    About the Residence E pa ana ki te Kāenga

    Our Youth Justice Residences provide a safe, secure and supportive environment where rangatahi in our care can make changes to get their lives back on track.

    Whakatakapokai is one of five Youth Justice Residences operating across Aotearoa that operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week providing residential placements and programmes for rangatahi aged 13 to 19 years who have been charged with or convicted of an offence.

  • Our vision at Whakatakapokai is to create a unique, culturally focused, therapeutic, safe and restorative care environment that enables rangatahi to strengthen their connection with whānau, hapū, iwi and their culture;
  • and develop the skills to make positive decisions to support them to flourish and transform their lives, reducing the risk of reoffending.

    Whakatakapokai is strongly focused on achieving positive change in rangatahi through education, skill development, vocational programmes, and therapeutic and cultural interventions using a Māori world centric view (Te Ao Māori).

    Our overall goal is that rangatahi who come into our care are positively integrated back into their community and reduce the risk of reoffending with their mana restored.

    About the role Mō te tūnga

    The Team Leader Support Services will lead and manage residential administration and support staff in the provision of effective and efficient systems, processes and support services to aid the smooth running of the Residence.

    The role provides advice and support to the Kaiwhakahaere and the Residential Leadership team regarding all aspects of administrative, financial, HR and support services run by the Residence.

    The role will involve the following :

  • Providing team management and leadership in a supportive Te Ao Māori environment
  • Fostering people development through coaching and mentoring
  • Building a culturally competent and effective team through ongoing cultural development and support
  • Ensuring the provision of quality support services
  • Providing high level, timely advice and support to the Kaiwhakahaere and the Residential Leadership team
  • Ensuring consistency and compliancy of operational practice across the Residence in accordance with statute and policy
  • About you Mōu

    To apply for this role, you must demonstrate the following qualifications and experience :

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Finance, Business Studies or Administration is desirable
  • Ability to manage a team accountable for the provision of financial, administrative and corporate services in an organisation (preferably in the Public / State sector)
  • Experience in the development and implementation of financial and administration systems and standard operating procedures
  • Experience in managing a budget
  • A high degree of computer literacy with the ability to work with information management financial and payroll systems, including the Microsoft suite
  • We are looking for candidates who demonstrate the following skills and behaviours :

  • Strong people management skills, including performance management and change management
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal
  • Aptitude to provide leadership, coaching, mentoring, and enhancing capability in people
  • The ability to maintain performance under pressure
  • Strong relationship management skills and the ability to successfully engage with a wide range of stakeholders
  • The ability to collaborate with others and work as one team
  • A commitment to Oranga Tamariki's Māori cultural framework
