Women, Child & Youth Clinical Care Group

Hauora Tairāwhiti DHB is pleased to open applications for an Advanced Paediatric Trainee in our Paediatric Department here at Gisborne Hospital, Tairāwhiti.

Our DHB’s vision is Working together for a Healthier Tairāwhiti so this means you will enjoy contributing to a supportive team environment with our highly experienced and committed Paediatricians, as well as House Officers and the many other multi-disciplinary teams and departments.

The suitable candidate would have completed both the written and clinical FRACP examinations in Paediatrics. The clinical attachment in Gisborne is accredited for 6 months of rural training and 6 months non-core training.

There is potential for trainees to achieve 6 months of developmental training also with additional clinics and work.

The Advanced Trainee will be responsible for the delivery of paediatric assessment and treatment of both inpatients and outpatients under his / her care to a secondary specialist level based at Gisborne Hospital on a regular basis during regular hours and on a rostered basis outside regular hours.

The Advanced Trainee will function as a junior consultant under specialist paediatrician supervision at all times. They will carry out their own outpatient clinics, ward rounds and on-calls as the lead doctor with a specialist paediatrician available to them at all times.

Our focus is on your learning. We have an active educational program within the department and you are given dedicated non-clinical training time on your roster to help you achieve this.

Gisborne region is unique, we provide healthcare for one of the highest population demographically for Māori in NZ and the township has a population of around 35,000 and the outlining farming areas a further 10,000, so it’s just a short commute to work every day (some ride their bike to work every day).

Enjoy living by the beach, in one of the sunniest places in NZ. Think summer barbeques, beautiful beaches, surfing, fishing or enjoying a glass at our local wineries.

For a change, take a short flight to Wellington or Auckland for a city weekend getaway and more fun.

Make the change. Join our highly motivated, hard-working and fun team!
