Following a review of our organisation Whangarei District Council is busy implementing the changes and working on new initiatives aimed at better serving our community.

To support us in this phase we are looking for an experienced Data Warehouse Administrator to assist us in designing, implementing and optimising a number of data innovations.

As part of the Business Improvement Team the successful applicant will be responsible for all aspects of the design, build and maintenance of data related environments. These include :

  • Analysing requirements for the new data warehouse
  • Identifying all council feeds to the warehouse (approx. 80 source systems)
  • Working with business analysts, data analysts and other stakeholders to identify requirements for business intelligence and structuring the warehouse accordingly
  • Designing the data warehouse schema and assisting with the initial build
  • Facilitating data migration and population of the data warehouse and other systems, both initially and ongoing
  • Managing / monitoring the warehouse and other data related cloud based and on premise environments
  • Transformation of the data extracted from the warehouse and other systems into meaningful information such as reports, dashboards and graphical representations
  • Production of three-dimensional data views using SQL
  • Assisting in the formulation of a Business Intelligence Reporting strategy
  • Optimising the integrity, accuracy, security and performance of data related environments
  • Working with other teams to ensure that the outputs consistently meet business needs.
  • If you think you have what it takes to be successful in this role and are eager for us to consider your application, you will need to be able to demonstrate the following attributes :

  • Experience managing an organisation's BI initiatives and Data Transformation Services
  • Strong understanding of SQL programming and Microsoft Power BI
  • Experience with managing, building and designing SQL architecture and security management
  • Experience interrogating, designing and building data feeds from complex systems
  • Sound understanding of complex and diverse data sets
  • Expertise in transformation of data to provide 3-dimensional data views
  • Understanding of different systems' architecture
  • Systems thinking approach
  • Business acumen and an appreciation of business processes
  • Adaptable to the changing needs of the council that may involve work beyond data management
