Tauranga City Council is looking for an exceptional building control person looking to step up to join our fast-paced, high-performing Building Services team to establish and lead a new team of CCC assessors.

How you'll make an impact

We are looking for an energetic professional who can focus on getting the job done and continuous improvement, and you will be working closely with your peers in the Building Services lead team.

You will be responsible for leading and ensuring your team and our customers are well supported, and help to drive performance, culture, and a positive environment for your team to do their best work.

Your team is responsible for assessing and issuing CCCs and completing compliance schedules. The work this team does is absolutely vital to the delivery of buildings in Tauranga and helps ensure that we meet both our community expectations and our legal obligations.

In this leadership role, you will be confident with our customers, helping to deliver a professional and timely service at this important end of the process.

You will be responsible for the establishment of a new CCC assessment team, initially focusing on assessing and issuing commercial CCCs and Compliance Schedules but with scope to expand this once established.

You'll bring to the role :

  • Knowledge of legislation relating to the building industry especially around CCCs and compliance schedules.
  • An appropriate Reg 18 qualification or working towards one
  • Ability to lead and motivate team members
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationship and excellence in customer service
  • Ability to supervise, mentor, and develop a team
  • A positive solution focus and strong resolution skills
  • Clear communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills
  • Diligence and commitment to following through and resolving problems
  • Sound judgment, initiative, ability to self-manage, flexibility
  • A focus on business improvement
  • Advantageous to have :

  • Previous leadership experience would be a distinct advantage
  • Proficiencies in Microsoft Office and computer database systems
