Kaitohu Matua ā Rohe - Senior Advisor Regional

Location - This position is based in our Te Tau Ihu - Nelson Office

Te Puni Kōkiri (Ministry of Māori Development) is a progressive government agency that works within government and communities to achieve our vision of Thriving Whānau.

To achieve this, we engage with whānau, hapū and iwi, and partner with other public sector agencies.

We are looking for an Advisor to play a critical role in leading out the Māori development strategic objectives in Te Tai Hauauru.

Te Whiwhinga Mahi The opportunity

The Advisor is responsible for assisting whānau, hapū, iwi, Māori organisations and Māori communities to develop and implement initiatives that will enable them to achieve long-term economic and social development.

The Senior Advisor will work with agencies, organisations and providers to assist them to improve their outcomes for Māori.

You will do this by :

  • Assisting whānau, hapū, iwi, Māori organisations and Māori communities to develop and implement initiatives that build rangatahi capability to enable them to achieve long-term success and prosperity.
  • Facilitating regional partnerships and to work with stakeholders across the iwi, public and private sectors.
  • Contributing to regional work programmes including leading and providing policy advice across a range of project related issues significant to Māori and Government.

  • An adaptable team player experienced in working in high performing physical and virtual cross functional teams.
  • Passion for knowledge, open to learning new things and comfortable with a changing environment.
  • Comfort in working in a tikanga / kaupapa Māori environment, a degree of fluency in Te Reo Māori is of benefit.
  • Ability to identify, build and actively manage significant relationships, valuing diverse perspectives and experiences.
  • Understand the relevance of the Treaty of Waitangi to the work being undertaken.
  • Well-developed communication skills, both oral and written.
  • A clean full motor vehicle driver's licence.
