Environment Canterbury is changing the way rivers are managed in one of New Zealand's largest, most diverse and naturally stunning regions.
The Rivers Section is responsible for the construction and maintenance of flood protection works, land drainage, fluvial gravel management, delivery of a land survey programme and Braided River Revival / Whakahaumanu ngā awa ā pākihi across the Canterbury region.
As an Engineer in this team, you will be responsible for extremely varied work in waterways throughout the region. We have an opportunity for an appropriately talented engineer to join our team at either an intermediate or senior level depending on skills and experience.
In this diverse role you will design and deliver physical work programmes, lead and mentor staff, undertake technical investigations and scheme reviews, manage capital projects, collaborate with internal and external stakeholders and ensure best practice in all of our team’s work.
To ensure your success, you will need :
Experience working in river engineering / flood protection / drainage,
Experience working with contractors, coordinating and delivery work programmes and managing budgets,
Practical experience working with resource management, local government and other legislation,
Experience in the use and delivery of Asset Management Systems and procedures,
Proven ability to develop and nurture strong relationships with stakeholders and tangata whenua,
An environmental and health and safety perspective in all aspects of work,
Ability to work as part of team as well as independently in the field,
Ability to respond effectively in times of natural emergency response.
