  • Location : Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, other main centres across NZ also considered Te Whiwhinga mahi The opportunityAs our Manager of Acceleration and Development you will have a hand in shaping the future of the transport sector within New Zealand to give effect to the government's priorities of accelerating modal shift and our response to climate change.
  • You will lead the Acceleration and Development function for the Transport Services group at Waka Kotahi. This team implements government and organisational policy, currently through building capability, implementing the One Network Framework for the land transport system, and the delivery of a cross-agency programme of work for Climate Change Adaptation.

    The type and volume of projects undertaken by the team is expected to vary over time, with the projects listed already staffed and underway.

    You will lead a team responsible for embedding multimodal and innovative change across Waka Kotahi and play a strong leadership role in the Multi-modal and Innovation Leadership business unit.

    This role requires strong influencing skills to build and maintain working relationships with our partners internally and externally, as well as prior success in building capability and implementing change into systems and processes.

    This function has been established, but needs help to take the next step up to deliver in our evolving transport sector.

    To be successful in this role, you will bring :

  • Proven experience in leading a complex function across an organisation and with delivery partners
  • Skills in programme management, with an understanding of good project management
  • Experience in thought or administrative leadership of capability build programmes is strongly desired
  • Excellent relationship management, influencing and communication skills (existing relationships will be an asset)
  • An understanding of the Machinery of Government (local and / or central)
  • Proven experience in a senior role with high level strategic, analytical and conceptual thinking in a complex environment
  • Ability to think outside the square to support the formation of an innovative and evidence-based future state
  • Talents in the ability to earn trust and credibility to build spheres of influenceThis role can be based in Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch.
