Rotorua Lakes Council (RLC) has a large and significant project portfolio underway over the next five years that continues to deliver strongly on the Rotorua 2030 Vision and we want to appoint experienced Senior Project Managers to the following roles :
Senior Project Manager
This role will be involved in a variety of important place making, construction, planning, infrastructure and Council projects and we are looking for an experienced and talented Senior Project Manager to oversee the delivery of these projects.
As an indication of the scale of work underway, the budgeted RLC capital spend this financial year is $146m with a similar quantum next financial year, across projects ranging from under $1m to $52m in size.
This role will functionally report to the Project Management Office Delivery Lead and on a day to day basis work closely with the Project Sponsor(s) and cross-functional project teams.
You will be responsible for managing and successfully delivering a range of projects from initiation to closure.
Given the ongoing project workload and recent positive experience with internal project managers, our preferred model is to employ talented project managers internally rather than reliance on external consulting services.
As a project manager joining RLC, you will be well supported by the Project Management Office and have a role in building the RLC project management capability.
Building a professional approach to project management and supporting project managers across other business units in their career development is a priority at RLC.
Senior Project Manager Homes & Thriving Communities
We are looking for someone ideally with social policy, planning or urban design experience to support the delivery of Council's Homes and Thriving Communities strategic objectives.
This role reports to the Portfolio Manager and will work with the Homes and Thriving Communities Programme Managers and other professionals.
You will be responsible for delivering key projects and initiatives that empower our communities and enable the development of housing at scale across the district as well as community safety and locality planning initiatives.

We are looking for an effective communicator with the ability to coach, mentor and provide effective support and guidance to delivery teams both internal and external to the Council.
Familiarity with local government strategy, planning and infrastructure is desirable however; our key focus is to recruit a Senior Project Manager that can demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to various projects and environments within a large scale, multi-agency programme setting.

The successful candidates will be highly computer literate with a proven track record of producing project documentation and maintaining accurate project data.

Te Arawa is a key partner of Council and a major stakeholder in many of our projects and programmes so a high level of engagement and collaboration with iwi will be required.
The successful applicant(s) will therefore need to be comfortable working in a bicultural framework, with knowledge of Te Ao Maori and preferably some te reo Maori competency, as well as and proven experience in engaging with iwi in a culturally appropriate manner.
