Medical Laboratory Pre-Analytical Technicians / Trainees Perm Full Time - Specimen Reception

Our state of the art Lab at Wellington Hospital are currently on the hunt for strong communicators, who are self-motivated, with high attention to detail to join the team as a Medical Laboratory Pre-analytical Technician / Trainee.

We have multiple full-time permanent roles in our laboratory that operates 24 / 7, so flexibility with your working hours will be invaluable to the team.

Responsibilities will include,

  • Checking specimens and forms to ensure all patient information and specimen requirements are met as documented in the Laboratory Procedure Manual, prior to these samples going through to the Core Laboratory for analysis (i.
  • e. Haematology, Biochemistry & Microbiology).

  • Follow direction from senior staff to organise and prioritise workflow to meet the company's and client's requirements,
  • Assist in maintaining laboratory equipment in a condition that allows optimum performance as directed,
  • High level of customer service, and discretion, during inbound and outbound calls to clients
  • Undertake clerical and administrative duties (such as data entry) for the department as directed.
  • The ideal applicant will be a qualified and registered Medical Laboratory Technician, or a Medical Laboratory Pre Analytical Technician with a qualification in Specimen Services, or Phlebotomy.

    However, we would also consider applicants who are willing to work towards gaining the required qualification, following two years of training, and then becoming registered.

    For this, you must have an aptitude and enthusiasm for health and science and have a minimum of NCEA Level 3 in Science, Maths and English with an eye for detail, plus accurate and fast keyboard skills.

    You will need to be computer literate, and have the ability to work in a highly structured environment, as following standard operating procedures to the letter is a critical function of this position.
