Permanent fulltime position at Scion's Rotorua campus

Scion specialises in research, science and technology development for the forestry industry, wood products and wood-derived materials.

We lead new technology development for renewables, bio-products and energy and the establishment of a broader based bio-

economy. As a Sustainable Value Chains scientist, you will provide analytical capability that will play a key role in enabling the growth and success of the Māori forestry and agribusiness sector.

This will include the advancement and embedding of Māori -centred sustainable value chain research into industry, the emerging bio-

economy and the Government's policy and sector strategies.

What are we looking for :

  • PhD or Master's degree in value chain research, systems, economics, natural sciences or a related discipline and experience within New Zealand's primary industry sectors
  • Track record of working with Māori communities, Māori agribusiness and forestry organisations and the Māori business sector
  • Demonstrated experience with kaupapa Māori and Māori centred research methodologies
  • Knowledge of working within trans-disciplinary research teams.
  • Capability in systems analysis and systems thinking in relation to complex multi-sectorial, primary industry value chain problems.
  • Proficiency in te reo Māori me ona tikanga and familiarity in working within a Māori environment.
  • Experience in building relationships with key stakeholders through pro-active network development, information transfer and the identification of new opportunities and collaborations.
  • Experience in communicating technical information (verbal and in writing).
  • A team player with strong personal skills Other attributes that will make you good for the job include :
  • Experience in developing research proposals and leading research projects / programmes.
  • An interest in the development of a circular bio-economy in New Zealand.
  • Knowledge of commercial forestry.
  • Real-world experience in primary sector value chain management, logistics and / or transport.
