At DOC, we have a new Heritage and visitors team and a refreshed strategy, which this role will play a critical part in achieving.
This new role reports to the Director Heritage and Visitors, and leads a small team has the following key responsibilities :
Develop, improve and maintain national policy for the provision, access, and use of visitor facilities and services.
Review and develop operational policies, business rules, and standard operating procedures.
Assess the system impact of recommended changes, and develop implementation plans that mitigate this.
Identify improvement and development opportunities in DOC products such as Great Walks.
Support the wider organisation with training and advice to ensure effective compliance with standards and policies.
Ensure that products, standards and policies work together to deliver safe outcomes for visitors.
Work in partnership with the new unit, the wider DOC team, iwi, the tourist and heritage sectors and the wider natural resources sector.
Your background will demonstrate :
Expertise in creating customer focussed standards, products and operating policies for a complex and diverse national organisation.
A pragmatic results-oriented style.
Experience in a senior position which requires people leadership strategic thinking and the ability to influence at the most senior levels.
Confidence in cross-functional approaches to working, with a proven ability to at once collaborate and deliver.
An understanding of Te Ao Māori values and knowledge, and experience partnering with iwi on complex issues.
The role is fulltime and your staff are spread across the country, so occasional travel will be required.
