    We are looking for aperson who can assist our teams to ensure that we continue to provide awelcoming and safe environment for the Inpatient Mental Health Unit (WāhiOranga), the Emergency Department at Nelson Hospital, as well as at our OlderPersons Mental Health Unit at Alexandra Hospital in Richmond.

    The successful applicant may, on occasions, be required to work at Wairau Hospital in Blenheim when noother staff are available.

    As a PatientSupport and Security Worker you will focus on working with staff to best meetthe needs of patients and their whānau accessing our services.

    As this is a casual position youwill be working on an as requiredbasis covering staff leave across all shifts. Please note that there are nominimum guaranteed hours of work associated with casual employment.

    Our Patient Support & Security Workers cover a 7 day weekroster.

    Standard shifts are :

  • 3.00PM to 11.00PM Wāhi Oranga (Inpatient mental health unit), Nelson
  • 8.00PM to 4.30AM Emergency Department, Nelson
  • 4.00PM to 10.30PM Alexandra Hospital, Richmond
  • It would be ideal if, as a casual employee, you were able to coverthe full range of shifts above. The majority of your shifts are likely to be associated with WāhiOranga and the Emergency Department.

    You will be thetype of person who works in a rational and calm manner and who has the skillsand experience to effectively de-escalate difficult situations and promote asafe and therapeutic environment.

    You will be able to relate well to patientsand their visitors. You will be able to work with the clinical team and followdirections.

    Previous experiencein security, or a related industry is preferred. However, this is not essentialas training will be provided.

    Additionally you will have :

  • empathyand a non-judgemental attitude towards patients and members of the public
  • theability to relate with ease to people from a variety of different cultures andbackgrounds
  • theability to recognise and pass on issues that may affect patient welfare
  • a goodlevel of physical fitness and mobility.
